Independent Study
An independent study is an opportunity for students to use research skills to explore an area of interest in great detail, and is a basic part of our elementary gifted program. Students develop skills in different types of research to thoroughly investigate their topic. These skills include but are not limited to researching, experimenting, interviewing, surveying, and discussing. Topics are chosen by the students and agreed upon with the teacher. Students meet for an hour each week to research.
As a second grade student the first ISP topic is a national park. All skills related to research are taught during the National Park Unit study and are practiced during their ISP.
